Dear Industry Partners,
I am very sad to inform you that ESC Preventive Cardiology 2020, the scientific congress of the European Association for Preventive Cardiology scheduled for 2-4 April in Malaga, is cancelled.
The ESC and EAPC leadership have been following closely the rapid spread of COVID-19 and its impact. Increasingly severe measures are being put in place to limit the spread of the virus as physicians and hospitals deal with a pandemic.
More than 40% of our congress faculty has informed us that they will be unable to attend – and that number will only grow. As I write this message, it is unclear what additional measures the Spanish Government will impose on the city of Malaga. Events of more than 1,000 are already banned in Madrid, parts of the Basque country and La Rioja.
Given our inability to assure a faculty presence, coupled with more elaborate restrictions in Spain, cancelling our congress is the only responsible course of action.
As an industry partner, I wanted to inform you directly, realising that this cancellation will likely come as a great disappointment. I also wanted to personally acknowledge the importance of your contribution to the mission of our association and its congress.
