The European Society of Cardiology is pleased to announce record pre-registration figures.
With over 22 000 active delegates now pre-registered, the ESC Congress 2009 in Barcelona is now likely to attract well over 30 000 attendees.
With provisional estimations of 3 000 new active delegate registrations onsite, 6 000 exhibitors, and 1 000 accompanying persons, we invite you to plan your onsite activities accordingly.
In response to the new influenza A(H1N1) we recommend the World Health Organisation (WHO) advice to all those planning to visit:
WHO is not recommending travel restrictions related to the outbreak of the influenza A(H1N1) virus.
Limiting travel and imposing travel restrictions would have very little effect on stopping the virus from spreading, but would be highly disruptive to the global community.
You should not travel if you are feeling unwell or have symptoms of influenza, this is a precaution that can protect your colleagues and others.
Protect yourself and others when travelling and at the congress, simple prevention practices include:
· Avoid touching your mouth and nose;
· Clean your hands thoroughly with soap and water, or cleanse them with an alcohol-based hand rub on a regular basis;
· Cover your nose and mouth when coughing and sneezing and, if using tissues, make sure you dispose of them carefully;
· Avoid close contact with people who might be ill;
· Practise good health habits including adequate sleep, eating nutritious food, and keeping physically active.
